Shipping an X-Classic Waterjet Controller

Over the years we have mastered crating and shipping things like controllers.  What used to take hours now literally takes less than 10 minutes.  The controller is placed into the custom built crate with padding in all the right places.  Beams that secure the controller in location, also with padding are quickly positioned and hey presto, we have a secure, well protected way to ship one of the most important parts of the waterjet.

Shipping a couple of waterjets

When shipping over the winter period we take special care to ensure no water is anywhere in the system.  With temperatures of 17 deg F, things tend to freeze quickly.  We once purchased a used system and the owner never removed the water prior to shipping, even though we were assured it had been, and the filter housings along with other components all cracked.  It was quite interesting.  None of the high pressure components were damaged.   But nothing like a direct drive pump we once got that was full of water.  It literally cracked the casing!

Use Cell Phone as a Wireless Pendant for Your Waterjet

With the WARDJet X-Series Controllers, windows mobile cell phones can be used as a pendant to run your waterjet from anywhere in the world.  With the combination of video and wireless pendant, you can stop, start, change cutting speed, view a color image of the part being cut and a host of other functional features.  You literally have control wherever you are.

I can be almost anywhere in the world and with the touch of an icon, view the cameras and see the waterjet, and with another touch of an icon, see exactly what is on the controller, the time left to completion of the job etc.  And you too could have this.  There is no charge for the cell phone software once you have the wireless PDA option, and the program can be loaded on as many cell phones as you wish.

Cell Phone to Monitor WARDJet Cameras

WARDJet now offer the ability to literally monitor as many cameras as you wish live from your cell phone.  You can zoom and pan the cameras from the cell phone so if you are at your desk, lunch, at home watching TV or in Europe, all you need is phone service to the internet and you are live on the shop floor.

We also have cameras with built in sound so you can hear what is happening.  You can talk to the shop too!

So no matter where you are, you can see and monitor and run the waterjet remotely.

Amazing.  WARDJet at work.  Changing the way waterjet businesses run.

Shipping ZXA-813

It never ceases to amaze me how we are able to load a complete machine in about 30 minutes.  This unit shipped this week.  It is the 3rd machine this customer has purchased from WARDJet which we appreciate.  They purchased their very first unit from us as a used waterjet in 2003.

Open House AMRC / Boeing

I had a great trip and the open house was fantastic.  AMRC / Boeing / Rolls Royce have a phenomenal facility and now with the WARDJet waterjet they have added more capability.  And as for the angels – I was wondering if this is what is in store for us long term…. (taken in Barcelona over the weekend!)

Olivetti Laptop from 1986

OK – so I was going through some stuff at home and found my first laptop from 1986.  An Olivetti made in Italy – top of the line personal computer.  What was most amazing is we plugged it in and it fired up as if I had turned it off yesterday.  It runs off two floppy drives with minimal hard drive memory.

We have come a long way with the X-Classic controller and our own software division that even makes our own circuit boards!  Who would ever have guessed

Cutting Corn with Waterjet

So are you hungry and looking for good quality trimmed corn?  If you have a waterjet this should be a breeze.  Most people think waterjets are used mainly for engineering applications, but the cutting and dicing and processing of food with waterjet is a huge business.  We have cut the most unusual over the years.

Waterjet Cutting Laminated Glass

OK so we cut peaches and steel in the last week.  Well here is some laminated glass cut using the Psy-Winder 5-Axis Waterjet Cutting Head into a 3D shape.  We were able to pierce and cut multiple holes and cones without delaminating or shattering the glass.  This was achieved using our VSMH - Variable Speed Mini Hopper - which changes the abrasive flow to the cutting head automatically, while we change the pressure at the pump.  All from within the program and all automatically while we stand and watch.

Abrasive Recycling

We get a lot of questions on abrasive recycling.  Below is a list of questions and answers which, if you are looking into recycling your abrasive, you will find worthwhile reading.

Where can I learn more about abrasive recycling

Besides on our website, there is also a good article here: http://www.thefabricator-digital.com/thefabricator/200907/?sub_id=7WkqLia93nT5&folio=22

Who uses this system now?

Companies that can justify it and are typically larger users.  This is a financial calculation that can you can use our Abrasive Recycling Calculator (http://www.wardjet.com/WARD1_FV_Calc_content.html) to help you with.

Reclaiming ratio?

This depends on what you start with and what abrasive you are using.  Generally you should expect 50% or more.  It is critical that the abrasive must be one that is a known quantity with known characteristics.  HPA will not recycle well.  You should ideally be using GMA, GMX or HPX abrasives.

How do I get an idea of what sort of reclamation rate I might be able to get from my abrasive?

Send us about 5 pounds of your used abrasive.  This should be gathered from various depths and areas of you tank, since finer abrasive will tend to settle near the top.  Gathering the abrasive from various locations will give a more representative sample.  We will perform a sieve analysis of your abrasive and provide you with a report showing the breakdown of the mesh sizes.  Based on this you can decide what the next step should be.  Typically if the numbers look good, a company will send us 2000-4000 pounds of their used abrasive and we will run it through the recycling system. You would certainly be invited to come watch the WARD PRO while it works.  We will then ship your recycled abrasive back to you so that you can cut with it and see the results first-hand.

Foot print of machine?

The machine itself is approximately 60” x 72”.  You will also need some room for the waste hopper and the hopper that holds the tank water before entering the WARD PRO.

Distance from dry sand to hopper?

Once the abrasive is dry and ready to use, it can be delivered up to 60 feet away from the machine.

Cost of operation of the WARD PRO?

Estimated at $7 per hour.  Remember you only run the machine if it has a full load of abrasive to recycle.  So you only incur the cost of the $7 when you are generating revenue through recycling.

Maintenance costs of WARD Pro?

The $7 per hour operating cost should cover all costs of operation and maintenance excluding labor.  The actual cost of power will change the operating cost a bit.  Labor should be minimal and easily be a part of the waterjet operators duties to keep an eye on the WARD PRO from time to time to make sure it is running efficiently.

Life span of machine?

We have machines that have been running for over 10 years in the field that are used every day.  We have a customer who has a 30’ x 13’ waterjet with 4 heads and 200 hp who operates 24 hours per day.  They have used their WARD 1 from the day they got their machine and continue to do so.

What if I am cutting a lot of wood or plastics?

In that case, a more careful evaluation of your application will be required.  Please contact us for more information

Waterjet Cutting Balsa Wood

Waterjet cutting of balsa wood with a 0.007" pure water-only orifice allows very fine detail cutting. And if you build anything out of balsa wood as a hobby, this is a great way to get exactly what you want easily and quickly.

Waterjet Cutting and Tapping Tube

Here is a great application for a WARDJet waterjet. One length of this 6" x 6" tube with 1/2" wall thickness, needed multiple windows cut into it, with 4 tapped holes in each corner to receive a cover plate.

The entire job took 35 minutes to cut including the tapping of the holes. The beam was put on the table diagonally so the entire beam could be cut and tapped in one program.

A great use of our motto - NOT JUST A WATERJET
